Mercedes-Benz EQ division has announced at the Paris motor show that the EQ S will be launched in 2020.
The futuristic looking car will be aimed at the luxury market.
Mercedes state that the name EQ stands for “Electric Intelligence” and is derived from the Mercedes-Benz brand values of “Emotion and Intelligence”. The new brand encompasses all key aspects for customer-focused electric mobility and extends beyond the vehicle itself. Mercedes EQ offers a comprehensive electric mobility ecosystem of products, services, technologies and innovations. The spectrum ranges from electric vehicles to wall boxes and charging services to home energy storage units.
Michael Kelz, Mercedes large car project director states, “We will have an electric vehicle at the level of the
S-Class, no doubt, but it will not be the S-Class”. Instead of being directly based on the S-Class, the EQ S will make use of Mercedes’ new modular architecture called MEA. This is mostly due to the fact that S-Class’ current platform, MRA, can’t accommodate pure electric drivetrain components, only plug-in hybrid gear.
